Debate: Is Islam a Religion of Peace?
It’s easy believing that Islam is a religion of peace. After all, our Muslim friends and neighbors share a similar way of life, and share our values. Imams visit our churches (and vice versa) to share common bonds of humanity. Most of us are horrified by violence, prejudice and profiling of anyone just because of the faith they practice. Most of us understand that terrorism proceeds from an extremist branch of Islam, and that the vast majority of 1.6 billion Muslims around the world live in peace through peaceful interpretations of Islam.
I had a strong desire to vote in favor of the motion. But after watching this fascinating debate, I was convinced to vote against it, sadly, because to vote for it is to turn a blind eye to the warrior aspects of Islam that do, in fact, inspire Islamic terrorism. Islam has not yet undergone its equivalents to the Reformation and Enlightenment. I invite you to watch it and share your thoughts in Comments below.
